Adoption has always been the way we planned to start our family. The topic of adoption was discussed early on in our dating (3rd date in fact). We both discovered that adoption has always been on each of our hearts. Jessica’s uncle is adopted, we’ve had many friends and family members that are adopted, and as Christians, we believe in the power of adoption, as God has adopted us into His family. We are eager to come alongside a birth mother in loving their child unconditionally. We have completed our home study, have our profile books finished and are prayerfully ready to accept a match!
We hope your new year is off to a great start! We’ve had several ask for an update on our adoption so we thought we would share where we are in process. As of June 2022, we were home study approved, which means legally we are able to see adoption situations and be presented before birth families. We’ve seen 7 situations since that time but have not been selected. We are praying that 2023 is the year that our family will grow!
This journey is difficult. We have read about and met with people who have adopted and knew it would be hard, but I don’t think we really knew how hard. The emotional rollercoaster of saying “YES” to a birth family, preparing for the what ifs, then finding out you weren’t selected – it can take a toll on you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. And yes, we know that God has a perfect child(ren) for us, but sometimes that alone is tough to hear and believe. This process is much like grieving, as we continue to grieve for the ones we never met.
Many have asked what you can do to help, and we can’t say THANK YOU enough for everything you have done so far, and ask that you continue to pray for the birth families and us during this adoption journey we are on.
Nearly four years ago, we were on a date discussing future plans. We found out we both had a calling to adopt. Fast forward to now, and we are excited to announce we are starting our family by adoption! We’ve completed our home study, profile book, applied to agencies, and are now in the waiting period.
Many of you have asked how to help, so here are ways to help:
1. Pray. Pray. Pray. Pray for the birth family for their brave decision to choose life for their precious baby. Pray for the hospital staff that will deliver their baby that everything will go smoothly for the momma and baby. Pray for the adjustment period for our family as we bring a child into our home.
2. Buy a tshirt (or 2!). Adoption costs can range from $20,000-$50,000 and we aren’t sure yet until we are matched what the final cost will be. We have been saving money towards the adoptions and applied for several grants, but every bit will help!
