Ed and Jeannette Johnson
are adopting a child from Mexico
Johnson Family
Welcome to the Johnson adoption family fundraising page! Many of you may not know that we got married during the COVID-19 pandemic in a tiny backyard wedding. Shortly after our marriage, we began considering the possibility of adopting a child. God has touched our hearts and set in motion the process for an international adoption. He has opened the door, and we are eager to walk through it. However, we know we can’t do this alone. We invite you to join us in bringing our daughter home from Mexico through your prayers and support.
The international adoption process can be lengthy and costly; it typically takes about two years to complete, with expenses between $40,000 - $50,000. We understand that this is a significant amount. Here is how the adoption agency estimates costs:
-
Nightlight Adoption Agency Fees (application, coordination, instruction, etc.) $26,100
-
U.S. Based Fees (home study, dossier, supporting documentation, post-adoption reports, etc.) $10,445-$15,140
-
Other In-Country Adoption Costs (airfare for multiple travels into the country, child’s visa and medical, child’s airfare, in-country accommodations, etc.) $4,050-$11,500
-
Grand Total Range: $40,595 - $52,740
The plan is to cover the costs through several methods - fundraising, applying for grants, reaching out to our church, and using our retirement account if necessary.
Children in orphanages in Mexico have had their parental rights terminated and currently have no mother or father. We feel a deep sense of responsibility knowing there is a little girl in an orphanage in Mexico who needs love and a safe, nurturing home. We are determined to make this happen!
We humbly request your prayers for a smooth and swift process and ask you to prayerfully consider making a generous gift to support this important mission.

May 10, 2026UPDATE
Thank you again for continuing to follow and support our adoption journey! We are excited to share that Phase 2 of our Home Study is almost complete! This phase has stretched us in ways we did not fully anticipate. Between medical appointments, psychological evaluations, extensive questionnaires, interviews, documentation requests, and two home study visits, this season has required a great deal of patience, flexibility, and perseverance.
We are currently working through a few remaining follow-up items before officially closing this phase and beginning the Dossier process.
Recently, we met with our country coordinator to better understand what comes next. We quickly
realized that the Dossier phase is far more detailed and involved than we initially expected. For a
moment, it felt like we had reached the end zone only to discover the field had been extended. While that realization was discouraging at first, it has also reminded us that adoption is built one faithful step at a time.Even in moments of fatigue and frustration, we continue to see God’s hand throughout this process. We are deeply grateful for your prayers, encouragement, and support as we continue moving forward.
PRAISE REPORT & PRAYER REQUEST
We continue to be incredibly grateful for God’s faithfulness throughout this process. Although this
season has been longer and more demanding than we expected, we have seen His provision,
guidance, and peace every step of the way. We are also thankful for the ways this journey continues to strengthen our marriage, deepen our faith, and prepare our hearts for parenthood. We have three specific prayer requests:
- Please pray for endurance, wisdom, and perseverance as we complete the remaining follow-up
steps of the Home Study process and begin preparing for the Dossier phase.
- Please continue praying for the little girl God is preparing for our family — for her protection,
emotional well-being, and future.
- Please pray for financial provision as upcoming Dossier-related expenses and adoption fees begin approaching in early June.CURRENT FUNDRAISING NEED

February 8, 2026Update
Welcome back to our adoption journey update! We remain deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and love surrounding us — your support reminds us we are not walking this journey alone.
Since our last newsletter, we have been immersed in Phase 2 of the Home Study and are making
steady progress. This season has focused heavily on our psychological and physical evaluations,
including five extensive questionnaires totaling over 1,000 questions — a stretching but meaningful opportunity for reflection, growth, and preparation for the parenthood we are prayerfully stepping into.We are also finalizing required documentation. Once complete, we will move forward with our home visit and in-depth interviews with our social worker.
From there, we will enter Phase 3: Dossier Preparation, where all materials are compiled for
submission as we move closer to being matched. While much remains, we are hopeful and expectant, trusting God’s timing in every step. Thank you for praying for endurance, peace, and provision as we press forward.
Praise Report & Prayer Request

We remain deeply thankful for the community surrounding us; your support has been a tangible expression of God’s love.
We have three specific prayer requests:

Did you know that Mexico prioritizes keeping children connected to their culture and heritage in the adoption process? Because of this, many international adoptions from Mexico involve intentional cultural education and relationship-building — helping adoptive families honor a child’s language, traditions, and story as they grow.Scripture

International adoptions in the U.S. drastically declined from their peak in 2004 (nearly 23,000) to a few thousand by the 2020s, partly because many former top countries like China, Russia, and Guatemala restricted or banned them, making it much harder for U.S. families to adopt healthy infants, shifting focus to older kids or those with special needs.Scripture
