Danny & Megan McCooey

are adopting a child from United States of America

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read our story…

We are the McCooey’s (Megan & Danny). We met in 2006 at Bowling Green State University (they call us Falcon Flames) and we got married in 2008. For me (Megan) it was love at first sight, I remember telling my stepmom I had met the man I would marry after only one conversation with Danny. There was something about him-I just knew. I had heard people tell stories of “knowing” and never imagined it was something that actually happened, until it did. It was an undeniable feeling. I had found my person and I couldn’t wait to build a life with him.

Our relationship was magical from the start…Danny has always been quite the romantic (thanks to his grandpa Taylor) and he’s never shied away from showing me and telling me how much I'm loved. One of our favorite things about our relationship is the silly banter we’ve shared since we met. We make up songs and sing them tirelessly, We have more goofy nicknames than I can count-I can’t even remember the last time we used one another’s names when not speaking to other people.

Danny has always been the calm to my storm. He’s laidback while I’m more high-strung. My competitive, strong willed nature never rattled him in the least. Together we’re the perfect balance and can tackle any obstacle life throws at us. No matter what the situation, we know we can count on each other, because we’re a team. Our love is strong, fierce and unwavering. We work hard to build a life we can be proud of.

From the time we got married we couldn’t wait to start a family. We started trying almost right away, After several miscarriages we learned that having a child of our own was going to be extremely difficult due to my long history of reproductive cancer, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis. in 2012 we started working with a specialist, but the heartbreaks just kept coming. we talked about our options through the years, but life always seemed to get in our way. Finally, in 2022, I was forced to have a total hysterectomy as well as a total ductal excision of one of my breasts. It had been a long and devastating road and we feared this chapter of our lives might be closed-that our dream of becoming parents was a dream we would never see through. The heartache was unbearable, but no matter how much either of us tried to move forward, the desire to be parents—to have a family of our own, continued to tug at our hearts. As the hard conversations continued this past year we both began to see the true meaning of our purpose…we’ve built our entire life and family around adopting…until now, they’ve always been rescued four legged babies, but the love we share with each and every one of them is undeniable. What we have come to learn is that our dreams of being parents…of having a family wasn’t closed, but that we were meant to adopt, because this is who we are. This was always our purpose…

So, here we are…16 years married, a lot of life lessons learned, and we’ve finally begun the adoption process to grow our family. While there are multiple ways to adopt, we felt that a domestic adoption was right for us at this time. We will be completing our adoption with Evermore Adoption Consultants.

First and foremost we cannot thank you enough for all the love and support we have been receiving and would love your continued prayers as we move through this exciting journey. We are encouraged to know how many people are praying for our future family. Second, you may or may not know that the national average for domestic adoption ranges anywhere from $40,000 to $70,000. One of the reasons we have chosen Evermore is because with every situation they send us, they are very transparent about the financial side of the adoption process. Most of their adoptions end up around $45,000 - $60,000 on average. Another reason we chose Evermore is their care for a process they’ve gone through themselves. They understand the rollercoaster of emotions adoptive parents are experiencing and they provide continuous contact, education, and support.

We have dedicated a great deal of time to ensuring we are financially sound. We’ve been saving on our own and plan to apply for adoption grants as well as an adoption loan. However, a large majority of funds are due at the time you match with a birth mama and many of these grants and loans require adoptive parents to be matched before they can even apply. While we are more than confident we have the means to financially support and care for our child once they're here, the reality is there is a substantial amount of money needed up front to bring our child home.

We’ve all heard the saying…”It takes a village!” Would you consider being part our Mighty Village? Whether you feel led to donate through adopttogether, purchase a puzzle piece, send us something from our registry, pray for us, or send words of encouragement, it would mean the world to us. We are able to receive donations here or by checks.
