Hannah & Sam Redekop

are adopting a child from United States of America

Hello friends & friends we’ll meet on this journey!

Sam and I have started our adoption process and we want to share this milestone with our community. This landing page will have information about upcoming fundraiser events, how to donate financially, FAQ’s about the process, as well as an opportunity to sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on our journey! https://mailchi.mp/d29107fa0e88/were-adopting

A bit about us: We met in 2017 and got married in 2018. We knew super early on this relationship, that it was very different than anything else we had experienced. Eight years later, it is still easy to love each other and we choose commitment on days when life is challenging. Like every couple, we’ve had ups and downs and we have only grown in respect for each other and our unique points of view over time. We truly can’t imagine life apart; we are best friends for life.

We’d talked about adoption early on in our relationship, and neither of us was interested in starting a family the traditional way, for unique to us, reasons. This was exciting and also reassuring. When the time was right, we decided to take intentional steps towards starting our adoption journey. This wasn’t without hurdles, we disagreed on timing. We wrestled and had varying levels of confidence in the idea of raising kids in the current state of the world. But in the end we both emphatically decided that kids add magic to this world everyday, and deserve a safe place to grow up. We love our niece and nephew so much, and can’t imagine life without them. They have been instrumental in feeling more confident and excited about supporting our own family. Children are a blessing, and we hope we can also bring blessings into a little one’s life.

We are both creatives and want to share that with our adoptive child. We hope there will be much music making, sewing, sports, reading, travelling, and photography as a family. We also believe in embracing the culture of the child and learning as much as we can so we can support our adoptive child’s interests and gifts.

For Hannah, who grew up with close friends who were adopted, it is a lifelong gift to know them, learn from them, and to have lived pivotal moments of life together. It was such a privilege to be a nanny and respite worker for families who fostered and adopted children in our community. It’s been a life long dream to adopt, as her parents will attest. She has been asking if they could adopt since she was 9 years old!

For Sam, he has loved coming into his role as an uncle to Dot and Emmett (and a number of our friends kiddos). He is excited to raise our families together. As godparents, we can’t imagine life without them, they have brought so much joy into our lives. Kids are magic!

With Hannah’s experiences as a doula, respite worker and mental health worker, she’s learned that it takes a village to care for a child. The adoption and fostering journey are no exception. There is a great need for both, all over the world, and we hope to successfully adopt both locally and internationally.

However we know we won’t be able to do this without our community. We also hope this will be a meaningful way for you to participate in an adoption journey.
