Darren & Amy Rogers

are adopting a child from Taiwan, Province of China

We are Darren and Amy Rogers, and we’re in the process of adopting a child from Taiwan!

Our sweet children, while they have had their difficult moments, have brought so much joy, fun, and meaning into our lives, and we desire to multiply that joy. We know adoption is born of loss, and we don’t want to downplay that trauma or think that everything will magically be ok when they’re adopted. However, we also know that consistent, loving care can go a long way toward helping children heal and if we can give even one child a stable, loving family we would love to do that. We also believe that adoption is a beautiful way to add to our family, as it reflects God’s own love for us. It is a sweet picture of the Gospel and of God choosing, saving, and loving a people for Himself and making us His own.

Why Taiwan: We feel that we are in a unique position to adopt from Taiwan because Amy’s family is originally from Taiwan and she has grown up understanding their traditions and culture.. Additionally, she can speak Mandarin fluently, thereby easing the transition for the child when he/she first comes to the US. Amy also still has aunts, uncles, and cousins in Taiwan, and her parents go back for an extended visit every year, so we anticipate being able to go back to visit periodically, allowing our child to still feel connected to their heritage.

Where we are in the adoption process: we started the process about a year ago, completing background checks, our Home Study, and adoption trainings. We’ve sent our application to the orphanages that Gladney partners with in Taiwan and are currently waiting for them to approve our application and then be matched to a specific child. Once we’re matched, we have a lot more paperwork to complete and then we need to wait for the courts in Taiwan to make it official on their end. We estimate it will take at least a year from the time we’re matched until we can bring our son or daughter home. While the waiting is hard, we’re trusting in God’s timing and know that He already has our specific child waiting for us!

WAYS TO HELP: We want you to become a part of our adoption! First, we would love if you could pray for us through this journey. The waiting is hard, and it’s easy to get discouraged when we don’t see any progress. Please also pray that we don’t become fearful, imagining how hard it can potentially be, but would trust God to give us the child He knows would be good for our family. We would also love for you all to keep encouraging us along the way, reminding us that God is sovereign over every part of our lives, including this adoption, and we can trust His good plans for us!

Second, we are fundraising to help provide for the financial cost of our adoption. Adoption costs can total over $55,000. These costs include our home study, agency fees, government fees, orphanage fees, and much more. We also have to travel to Taiwan at least once, and maybe twice if the judge in Taiwan requires a “bonding trip”. While we have been trying to save up, at this point we estimate that we still need to raise about $30,000 (which could go up if we end up adopting a sibling pair or if we have to travel twice to Taiwan).

Would you consider making a financial gift to help us bring our child home? You give to us through Venmo (@Amersgirl) or give a tax-deductible donation to our account at this website (but know that a 5% transaction fee is deducted from all donations). Or, if you would like to mail us a check or give through Zelle, please contact us directly. We are grateful for any gift you feel led to make!

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions, need alternative methods of contribution, or would like to talk more about our adoption. We will also post updates to this page, so please check back periodically to see where we are in the process. We hope to be matched in the next few months, and be able to give everyone an estimated date as to when we can bring our child home!

Thank you for taking the time to let us share our journey with you.
