Margaret & Brent Smith

are adopting a child from Bulgaria

WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS! WE ARE ADOPTING A CHILD!

Hello! We are Margaret & Brent. We are overjoyed that you have decided to learn about and walk with us on our adoption journey! You are a piece of our story, and how we come to bring our child home.

We entered into marriage on April 26, 2025, on the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday! This past year has been full of joy, excitement, prayer, and discernment.

I (Margaret) am a speech and language pathologist (SLP) in Early Intervention, working in the homes of families with children ages birth to three, and I (Brent) am the Director of Adult Faith Formation and Evangelization at a local Catholic parish.

We had many conversations when we were dating, engaged, and throughout this first year of marriage about adoption and what that would look like for our family. Through those heartfelt conversations and much prayer, we came to see that we were meant to and ready to adopt. We look forward to being able to cherish our first child, help him or her grow in faith, and experience the blessings of being parents.

While adoption is beautiful, it is also characterized by challenges and struggles both for the birth family and adopting family. The birth parents selflessly choose to give of themselves in such a radical way for the sake of their child to have a better life, and for that, we will be eternally grateful.

We are greatly blessed and are doing the best that we can to be prepared to welcome our first child into our home. We ask that you continue to keep us and our future child in your thoughts and prayers. Our plan is to roll out numerous different fun and engaging fundraisers in the coming months, so stay tuned! If you find it in your heart that you are able to give towards our adoption expenses, please be assured that your generosity is not only tax-deductible, but will only be used towards expenses associated directly with adoption. We are grateful for your kindness, support, prayers, and love.

A beautiful and intricate story is unfolding in our lives. God Himself is the author, and we can hardly wait to see the story He reveals to us.

Thank you so much for being a part of our journey towards adoption.

With heartfelt gratitude and blessings,

Margaret & Brent Smith — Below is a rough estimate and conservative summary of costs involved within our adoption:

Initial adoption fees - $5,400; Home Study Assessment fees (including travel for home visits) - $2,900; Post Home Study Approval fees - $12,700; Post Acceptance of Presented Child for Adoption fees - $16,500; Miscellaneous (including educational classes, psych exam, medical review, dossier preparation, & travel expenses) fees - $10,900
