Laura & Kevin Spencer
are adopting a child from United States of America
We’re adopting!!!
Many of you know the story of our journey to become parents. It hasn’t been an easy road. We’ve experienced loss and tried fertility treatments. After a lot of discussion, we’ve decided to adopt.
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $45,000 or more. This is why we have set a goal of $20,000 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents. Since we are adopting out of state there are also travel fees and time off work. Once out of state we cannot bring our little one home until the 2 state agencies sign off.
We are beyond excited.

Update 2
2 Years
January 8, 2024We are officially at the 2-year mark of trying to adopt. Our emotions have been up and down. During the past couple of years, we've submitted our profile to a few cases. Not being chosen is tough. Also, we've seen cases that we do not meet a birth mother's preferences. There have also been rising costs.
A few months ago, Kevin started a new job. The circumstances of this happening were something we didn't see coming. Though this was a setback, it was a blessing in disguise. His new employer looks after their staff which is reflected in the environment and benefits. We did think about taking a break from our journey during this time, but our caseworker encouraged us to continue. She also had recommendations of places to look in other states.
We continue to stay positive and know that 2024 is the year we will bring a little one home. -
Update 1
1 Year
October 28, 2022We are officially at the 1-year mark of waiting to be matched. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions. We applied to cases but still haven't been chosen. We are wondering if there is anything more we should be doing, but the professionals we are working with assure us we are doing everything right. A birth mama receives so many different profiles and has to make a difficult decision. We can't even imagine what she is going through.
We know that the wait will be worth it when we get that email that says, "you've been chosen".
