Dear friends and family, We are adopting!
Sarah: I will never forget my first trip to a Romanian orphanage when I was in middle school. Dad had been on several mission trips with church to Romania, and I had the opportunity to go one summer. My love of all those children has always stayed with me, and ever since then, I’ve had a strong desire to adopt.
Ryan: I’ve always felt a calling to adopt a child as far back as my memory serves. I came to the conclusion that the best thing I could do for this world I live in was to adopt at a very young age. My eyes lit up when my future wife mentioned wanting to adopt on a date early in our relationship. Our human experience varies so greatly, but we all share the need for clothing, shelter, and most importantly guidance with love.
It has always been the goal to expand our family by providing a home to a child in need. We’ve anxiously wanted to do this, but have faced a few detours. Our family journey has seen us venture across the country. We wanted to start the adoption process long ago, but we were uncertain if we’d be in a given place long enough to see it through. After returning to NC last year, we made our first home purchase in November and now are close to extended family support. Now, with the pieces in place, we are excited to come to the point in our family’s journey of beginning the adoption process. Eamon does not know of any details yet, but does ask for a sibling often and has so many hugs and kisses to share 😊
We have already found an agency to work with, and we’ll be praying for an opportunity for an expectant mother to choose us in the coming months. The agency, Angel Adoption, predicts costs to be roughly $30 to $40k. Expenses will vary, but this includes marketing, legal fees, any needs the mom has, and a home study. Adoption is expensive, and sadly, it makes adoption prohibitive for many families despite their best intentions and desires. We are nervous about finding the funds, but we’re taking a leap of faith and putting our trust in God to help us figure out this financial part of the challenge.
With vulnerability and humility, we ask you to be part of our family’s story… We would SO appreciate you contributing to a part of this little one's life and appreciate your generosity. We also covet your prayers as support in this journey.
Thank you! We love you! Ryan, Sarah & Eamon
Ryan & I had recently come to more of a peace that adoption was not the path God was choosing for us. It had been 2.5 years and our contract was up the end of November (3 weeks away from that phone call). I was at the playground with Eamon and neighborhood friends and got a call from our agency. Birth mom was due in 2 weeks, had chosen us and would like to move forward. It was a rush the next week for paperwork and things. A week later Friday, I was at the Christmas show walking around and got a text it was time! So we booked flights and got Eamon out of school early to tell him. Our baby girl was born later that evening and we were able to spend some time we will always cherish with her amazing birth parents.
It is hard to put into words all the feelings – humbled by her parents sacrifice and wanting what was best, overwhelmed with joy and nervousness, heartbroken is seeing their grief, and hopeful. And so grateful for God's timing and this amazing gift of an experience and healthy baby girl. Thank you to all of you for being a part of our family's journey.
Hi friends, sorry it has been so long since posting an update. This year has brought some challenges in our journey and a lot of waiting. The waiting is without thought some days, and other days rather hard.
We have extended our "contract" with our adoption consulting agency through end of August and are hopefully waiting to see if we get a connection with a birth mom before then. We will keep you posted, but just wanted to say how much we appreciate every one of you and your support.
All our love, Sarah & Ryan
It has been a year since we first 'signed on' with our agency, and like so many things, how it feels like that long and not that long simultaneously. We have continued to grow through this experience and keep learning more about the courageous birth moms and families that are out there.
We are still waiting to find a connection with a mom, but continue to pray and hope for that day. It has been an emotional ride, but one that we still know is for us. It has been awhile since an update, but know we have not forgotten you and your generosity. We'll keep you posted!
Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for each and every one of you and appreciate the outpouring of your generosity and support. We have been humbled by God's faithfulness in this journey. Our home study is complete, and we will keep you all posted as we look forward to next updates!
