We have always talked about adoption as one of the ways in which we would grow our family. After prayerful consideration, we have decided to take a leap of faith and start the process of adopting a baby girl from India; A country with the largest number of orphans in the world (over 30 million), most of which never make it to an orphanage at all. Due to cultural stigma, most of the children available for adoption have special needs, and approximately 90% of abandoned infants are female.
We are beyond excited to begin this journey and to share it with you all. We are preparing to do everything we can to welcome this beautiful new addition into our family. We hope that someday she will look back at all we did to get her to us and know how loved, valued, and cherished she is by us and so many others.
As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. On our AdoptTogether profile, you can contribute financially, learn about where we are in the process, find out our most current needs and prayers, as well as learn how to actively participate in our lively fundraising process!
It may surprise you to learn that adoption-related costs can easily add up to $35,000 or more. There are a lot of moving pieces that help to bring a child home (especially from a country halfway around the world!) Unfortunately, the majority of the costs of adoption need to be paid long before we match with a specific child. This is why we have set a financial goal of $45,000 to cover the costs associated with bringing our daughter home.
It is important that you know that the main benefactor of this fundraiser will not be Zach and Michaela, but our future daughter. If you feel so led, you can make a direct impact in bringing an orphan (soon to be our daughter) home and into a loving family!
