is adopting a child from Philippines

On July 30, 2020, Brian and I took the first step of faith in an incredible journey toward adoption!

Where did the idea to adopt originate?

This decision was definitely not out of the blue for us. We’ve individually had the desire to adopt before even meeting each other. I remember I just met him and I decided to do some classic blog “stalking”. I was so thrilled to see a whole post on the idea to adopt! I thought, “Wonderful! I don’t need to convince him of my own desire adopt!” This was among the many things we learned about each other and realized how much we clicked. Fast forward 8 years and 2 kids later, we were drawn to a church that had a thriving adoption community. After taking four classes learning all about fostering and adopting, it solidified our decision to pursue one of these options “some day”. We appreciated the candid conversations we were able to have with multiple families who’ve been there, done that. Being able to chat with our pastor’s wife and their journey to adopt three children was the most encouraging.

Moving to Utah

Then, we learned that the Air Force was moving us to Utah! What a big difference coming from the East Coast! We couldn’t stop looking at photos of the beautiful landscape and dreamed about life slowing down and spending more quality time with the kids.

Foster care to adoption

We decided to start the training for foster care before we moved as we knew it was a lengthy process. But once we moved to Utah, the discussion came back to adoption, that desire in both of our hearts that has been on hold for so long.

This topic we’ve talked about our whole marriage as “some day” was a reality being put on the table. After learning more about the orphan need in the world and seeing their faces and stories, it’s so difficult to look at life the same way. We can’t unsee their sweet, innocent faces. They didn't ask for this. There are so many children wanting to be part of a family and this family has so much love to give. We feel compelled by God’s desire for believers to take care of orphans and our own adoption in Christ’s kingdom.

We are humbled and excited to take one step closer to giving an orphan a place to call home sweet home. We are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful little one into our lives. As part of our adoption process, we have started this crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. This is why we have set a goal of $5,000 to help ease the financial requirements.

We invite you to be an important part of our story

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he or she grows up. As you help bring our child home, your story becomes part of this child's story, and we will forever be grateful for that.
