Even when Josh and I were dating, we talked about adopting a child in our future. We were so blessed to be a part of a culturally diverse church early on where many families either adopted or fostered. If you are one of those families - we are so grateful for the example you set!
It is impossible not to compare this adoption to our relationship with Jesus. We have both have been adopted, undeservingly, by our Heavenly Father Jesus. He has abundantly modeled what it looks like to take in a stranger and call us His son and daughter- all the while carrying our burdens, baggage, and sin on his back. He didn’t make us jump through hoops to be His heir either, and He loves us without anything in return.
Before our wedding day, we decided to make our marriage verse Psalm 34:3, “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together”. We have tried to base every life choice on glorifying the Lord. As we now answer the call to adoption, we do it to glorify God- as an act of obedience and a testament to God’s goodness. It’s humbling.
Of course, it’s also a little scary! I mean, we are kidding in our pics, for sure- sleep IS NOT overrated- we will miss it! But as we reflect on our journey Jesus has taken us on thus far, a few things are certain. One, it has been a roller coaster so far, and we don’t expect it to slow down. And two, he’s put us in a lot of faith growing, blind jumping experiences already, and we don’t expect those to stop either! Our life has forced us to put total faith in Christ, trusting Him in all things. And we will continue to do just that in this next season of becoming parents!
Finally, we covet your prayers: for the baby, for the birth mom, for our organization, for patience and peaceful hearts in this journey, and us preparing in all ways in this season and the next!
For those wanting more info:
We are adopting domestically in the US, specifically from North or South Carolina. We are currently in the paperwork/home study phase. Our placement will be with a child of either sex and race, 0-1 y/o, and possibly twins or siblings. We are so close to our profile being shown to birthmothers! But even though our profile is not live yet, that doesn’t mean we aren’t in the thick of it already! As some of you may know, adoption for many reasons is a costly investment into the kingdom… getting into the mid-30k's! That is a bit intimidating but if you know anything about our story, then you know we serve a big God who calls on the people of the Lord to come alongside God's heart in different ways. Some are called to act, some are called to give, and some are called to pray or being a shoulder to lean on.
If you are interested in hearing more about the cost of adoption, more of our story, or wondering if God is calling you to come alongside our family financially, please reach out for a phone call to chat more. You are also welcome to share this post!
