Adding a bit MORE love!!
We are adopting a child!
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. This is why we have set a goal of $15,000 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents.
We pray that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.
We are SO EXCITED to announce that we have been matched with a 9.5 year old little boy named Nic.
We had 2 visits with him to meet him and get to know him and were planning to having hime placed with us at the beginning of February.
On Thursday, January 18 at 5:30pm we got a call from our agency. It was one of those calls that changes EVERYTHING.
Another child in his foster home reported physical abuse and markings were confirmed to be found on the other child.
We did not want Nic to have to endure any more hardship, so when his caseworker called to see if we would be okay to move up our timeline, we happily said "YES".
Nic was driven to our house by his caseworker for immediate placement at 9pm on Thursday.
Nic's parental rights have been removed and he is eligible for adoption. This is exactly the scenario that we have prayed for!
Nic is a kind and joyful child. He likes to "tidy" up his room multiple times a day. He makes his bed, prays over his food and says "Thank you" for EVERYTHING without being asked. He's had a difficult past but all he wants is a "fresh start and a normal family". We are praying that our home provides all he needs and wants.
We are grateful that his caretakers in the past have introduced God and church to him already, and he has 4 bibles!
He LOVES sports, but has never been able to play organized sports. We cannot wait to sign him up for spring sports in the coming months. He is athletic and agile and we look forward to watching him do something he's never had the opportunity to do.
Nic came to us with very little. Broken toys, 3 pairs of shoes (2 with holes), 4 pairs of pants with holes, 1 pair of socks, 1 pair of underwear and no pajamas. Half of his shirts and jackets were too small and had holes. We have spent the last few days finding a dresser, shoes and clothes for him.
We sorted through everything he brought with him and let him decide on what to keep and what to donate.
He was given a hoverboard by his former foster family's foster agency, but he was only able to play on it for 6 hours a week because he was only allowed to charge it once a week. He was told that charging it "took too much electricity". We are so grateful that he is out of that situation!
Please join us in praying for Nic as he enters school this week. He is behind in school because of a low income school district and no help at home. We will be pouring into him as much as we can and getting him as much help as he needs to get him up to speed and thriving. He's a smart kid that works hard and is very grateful for everything. We are praying he can make friends quickly and feel at home.
Thank you for your generosity and longevity in our journey. It has been a long road, but we believe the timing of everything has been appointed by God. We look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!
