We began our journey as a married couple in June 2008. We exhausted all attempts to conquer infertility with a natural conception by the year of 2012. This journey ended when a doctor determined Melissa's pituitary gland prevented reproduction. Instead of chancy endocrinology, we turned to adoption, which had always been in our hearts. We ecstatically welcomed our daughter through an adoption agency in 2014.
We've always felt a strong calling to parent more than one child and have tried to become foster parents since January 2017. Fostering regulations differ from an independent agency, and there have been many delays in our process. Not discrediting heartache, we've also experienced a failed independent adoption since this date.
A higher power was at work though, creating an unbelievable opportunity for us. A birth mother has chosen us to enter a second agency adoption for a child due 60 days from now, the date we were informed.
Most adoptive parents save for years for an agency adoption. Time is something we just don't have. Having no idea this one would occur, we are unprepared. We've depleted all of our existing, independent resources so that we can begin this process and have humbly, subserviently, and modestly created this fundraiser in hopes of the ability to welcome our son on the day of his birth.
Due to the unexpected nature of a second agency adoption and the costs associated with it, we are asking your support. It may surprise you to hear that adoption costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. This is why we've set a goal of $10,000 to ease this overwhelming financial hurdle. Your donations will assist us in completing the fast-paced process to bring home our son in early 2018.
We're very eager and excited to complete our family and to provide a sibling for our daughter. Anything you can give will help a family that just wants to grow. We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our children as they grow. We are beyond blessed and grateful to have amazing people in our lives and be part of such a supportive community. Above all else, we want you to know that we are just regular people who've been given an extra set of obstacles. And that we promise to love our children with a love without end. We are eternally grateful for anyone's aid in bringing our son home safely, and for our daughter to earn the title "sister."
