Will and Allison Van Wyngarden

are adopting a child from Philippines

We are so excited to be adopting a little boy or girl from the Philippines! We're grateful that you've taken time to visit our site to find out more information about sharing in our journey.

Our names are Will and Allison and we have been married for 16 years and are blessed with three beautiful biological children. We thought our family was complete, but in February 2016 we felt God calling us to begin the adoption process. After a lot of prayer, we decided this was the next step in our family's story.

Not long after we started discussing adoption, our pastor told this story in church one Sunday.

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Thinking of all the orphans around the world can be overwhelming, yet we know we can make a difference in the life of one orphan by giving him/her a forever family and raising him/her in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. We are anxious to see how God stretches us, strengthens us and blesses us through this process. We've completed all the countless forms, and we are now just waiting to meet the beautiful child God has picked out for us.

The financial commitment of adoption can be very scary, but we are trusting God with this as well. Actual costs for our adoption will likely be around $30,000. This is why we have set up this page to help ease the financial burden that comes with international adoption.

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up. Thank you so much!
