Cierra Karson

is adopting a child from United States of America

Our road to adoption started long we met. It started when Zach was 5 years old and told his mom he wanted to adopt. We began dating in the summer of 2011, and Zach shared his heart for adoption with me and asked if that would ever be something I would consider. The years went on, we got married and into our second year of marriage we started talking about expanding our family. Adoption kept creeping into our heads and hearts as we continued to discuss our future family. In June of 2015 we went with our church at the time to Trinidad and Tobago for a missions trip. Our hearts broke as we walked into an orphanage and saw the children without parents soaking in the attention that we were giving them for a mere thirty minutes. I didn't think that we could make a difference in these beautiful children's lives in that short amount of time but I was crippled by the difference they made in ours. I had the privilege of holding a sweet eight month baby during our time there and as we left and I had to put him down, he cried and cried because all he wanted was to be held. It was at that moment that I felt the Lord tell me that I would, one day, pick up a baby and never have to put him or her down. That evening, I told Zach I knew we were supposed to adopt and he confirmed those feelings as well. The day after we arrived home from Trinidad we applied to the adoption agency, Lighthouse. We were accepted in less that 24 hours from our initial application, have had our home study and been chosen by and expectant mother. This journey has been a whirlwind of emotion and excitement! We are bringing home baby in May and can not wait to hold him in our arms forever.
