In 2008, Ben and Courtney went to Uganda with only the intension to partner with a local organization that had a vision to develop the next leaders of Uganda through education, mentorship and love. Little did they know, that they would meet their son that day. William was abandoned as a baby and only through the blessing of his grandmother&'s care, he lived. Ben and Courtney sponsored William to go to school. Through the next several years they would travel back to Uganda building relationships with many incredible people in Uganda, along with building a very close relationship with William. In 2011, after witnessing the declining health of William&'s grandmother, William&'s lack of care and needs not being met, and the inability to connect William with any other family, Ben and Courtney received consent to adopt. Nearly four years later, month after month in Uganda, receiving foster care, one way tickets to Uganda to fight for their son, heartache, the challenge of parenting from afar, and every day they have lived in the US without their son, they have finally completed all the needed steps to bring their son home.
